SOUVENIR D’ENFANCE
Une femme marche vers la place du village. Elle tient quelques fleurs dans une main et en approche une de son visage. Son parfum lui rappelle les bouquets sauvages qu’elle cueillait, enfant, dans la prairie autour de la maison.
Devant elle, son ombre prolonge sa silhouette. Le récit y reconnaît la petite fille qu’elle a été. La marche se poursuit dans l’espace public, tandis que le geste ramène la femme à un souvenir personnel.
Alain Rouschmeyer construit cette peinture autour de la relation entre la posture, l’ombre et le lieu. Une scène quotidienne donne forme à la mémoire, sans dévoiler le visage de ceux qui l’habitent.

“She brings a flower close to her face. The gesture reminds her of the bouquets she used to give her mother.”
A woman walks towards the village square. She holds a few flowers in one hand and brings another close to her face. Its scent reminds her of the wildflower bouquets she picked as a child in the meadow around her home.
Her shadow extends ahead of her. Within the painting’s narrative, it recalls the little girl she once was. She continues walking through the public space while the gesture brings her back to a personal memory.
Alain Rouschmeyer builds this painting around the relationship between posture, shadow and place. An everyday scene gives form to memory without revealing the faces of those who belong to it.
REGARDER DE PLUS PRÈS
A CLOSER LOOK
La main portée au visage concentre l’attention. Ce geste accompagne la marche et introduit un moment de recueillement au milieu de la place. Les plis de la jupe précisent la posture et le mouvement du corps.
L’ombre participe au récit. Elle inscrit une seconde silhouette dans la composition. La perspective du sol et les lignes de l’architecture relient ces deux présences à l’espace traversé.
The hand raised towards the face draws the eye. The gesture accompanies the walk and introduces a moment of reflection within the square. The folds of the skirt define the posture and the movement of the body.
The shadow contributes to the narrative. It introduces a second figure into the composition. The perspective of the ground and the architectural lines connect these two presences to the space being crossed.
LE GESTE ET LA MÉMOIRE
GESTURE AND MEMORY
Le titre invite à regarder au-delà de la promenade. La fleur rappelle un geste d’enfance, celui de cueillir un bouquet pour l’offrir à sa mère. La scène réunit ainsi deux moments de la vie dans une même composition.
Le souvenir demeure personnel, mais le geste reste reconnaissable. Sentir une fleur, retrouver une odeur familière ou traverser un lieu connu peut faire revenir un instant que l’on croyait oublié.
The title invites the viewer to look beyond the walk. The flower recalls a childhood gesture, picking a bouquet to give to one’s mother. The scene brings two moments of a life together within a single composition.
The memory remains personal, but the gesture is familiar. Smelling a flower, recognising a scent or walking through a familiar place can bring back a moment once thought forgotten.

La composition, épurée et baignée de lumière, laisse toute sa place à l’émotion discrète :
celle d'un instant suspendu entre hier et aujourd’hui.
