L’IMPORTANT C’EST…
Un vendeur de roses se repose au bord du lac. Sa journée se poursuivra dans les restaurants, de table en table. Pour l’instant, il reste allongé, son téléphone devant les yeux, avec son sac et son seau de fleurs près de lui.
Une mouette traverse la scène. Au loin, la brume atténue la limite entre le ciel et l’eau. L’homme partage cet espace avec les objets de son travail, mais son attention se porte sur l’écran.
Alain Rouschmeyer retient cette coexistence entre le repos, le travail et le paysage. Le titre laisse la phrase ouverte. Chacun peut regarder la scène selon ce qui attire son attention, la posture de l’homme, le téléphone, l’oiseau ou la rose.
WHAT MATTERS IS…
“He checks his phone. Beside him, the roses await his next round.”
A rose seller rests beside the lake. His working day will continue in restaurants, moving from table to table. For now, he lies with his phone before his eyes, his bag and bucket of flowers beside him.
A gull crosses the scene. In the distance, mist softens the boundary between sky and water. The man shares this space with the objects of his trade, while his attention remains on the screen.
Alain Rouschmeyer captures this coexistence of rest, work and landscape. The title leaves the sentence unfinished. Each viewer can read the scene through what draws their attention, the man’s posture, the phone, the bird or the rose.

A CLOSER LOOK
La posture allongée donne son organisation à la scène. Le corps occupe le rivage et exprime une pause entre deux périodes de travail. Le téléphone précise la direction du regard.
Le sac, le seau et les roses renseignent sur l’activité de l’homme. Ces objets donnent au tableau son contexte humain. La mouette et l’étendue du lac introduisent une autre échelle, celle du paysage qui continue autour de lui.
The reclining posture organises the scene. The body occupies the shore and conveys a pause between two periods of work. The phone establishes the direction of the man’s gaze.
The bag, bucket and roses reveal his occupation. These objects give the painting its human context. The gull and the expanse of the lake introduce another scale, that of the landscape continuing around him.
UNE ATTENTION PARTAGÉE
DIVIDED ATTENTION
L’homme se trouve au bord du lac, mais regarde son téléphone. Le tableau réunit dans un même espace ce qui l’entoure et ce qui retient son attention. Il laisse au spectateur le soin d’interpréter cette distance.
Les roses peuvent évoquer le travail, une rencontre ou un geste destiné à quelqu’un. Le titre ne fixe aucune réponse. Il accompagne une scène où plusieurs histoires restent possibles.
The man is beside the lake, yet he is looking at his phone. The painting brings his surroundings and the focus of his attention into the same space. It leaves the viewer to interpret the distance between them.
The roses may suggest work, an encounter or a gesture intended for someone. The title offers no fixed answer. It accompanies a scene in which several stories remain possible.

Avec L'IMPORTANT C'EST, j’ai voulu saisir l’instant où la réalité extérieure et la quête intérieure se frôlent sans jamais se confondre.
L’homme, absorbé par son téléphone, est à la fois ici et ailleurs — présent au rivage, absent à l’instant.
La rose emballée, l’ombre du seau, la mouette en vol, tous parlent d’une attente discrète, d’un espoir peut-être, ou d'une simple distraction.
Le cadrage resserré, le jeu entre réalisme et suggestion invitent à lire entre les lignes d’une scène ordinaire, la poésie cachée du quotidien.

The man, absorbed in his phone, is both anchored and adrift — present at the lakeside, absent from the moment.
The wrapped rose, the metal bucket, the passing seagull all whisper of waiting, of hope perhaps, or simple distraction.
The tight framing and interplay between realism and suggestion invite the viewer to read between the lines of an everyday scene, uncovering hidden poetry.
