A ONE-OF-A-KIND ARTWORK
Some artworks do not begin with an idea.
They begin with an encounter.
From time to time, someone entrusts me with a story.
Not to depict it,
but to reveal it,
slowly, until it finds its rightful place.
WHAT THIS MEANS
These artworks are not commissions in the traditional sense.
I do not work from a brief.
I do not create an image to meet an expectation.
Instead, the work begins with a real presence,
a relationship, a shared journey,
a fragment of life strong enough
to become a painting.
A SHARED DECISION
I accept only a small number of these proposals.
Not as a matter of principle,
but out of necessity.
Each artwork of this kind requires:
time
mutual trust
and a quiet understanding of what should be painted...
and what should remain unseen.
Sometimes, I decline.
Sometimes, I simply suggest waiting.
THE TIME OF THE ARTWORK
An artwork born from an encounter follows its own rhythm.
It emerges slowly,
through stages,
through a process of gradual discovery.
The format, the posture, the season,
the distance between figures,
all are determined within the time of painting.
WHAT THIS ARTWORK IS NOT
It is not a decorative portrait.
It is not a literal representation.
It is not an image created for resemblance alone.
It is an autonomous artwork,
shaped by its own necessity,
and destined to exist far beyond the story from which it emerged.
BEGIN A CONVERSATION
If you believe a story deserves to find its place in a painting,
you are welcome to write to the studio.
Without urgency.
Without immediate expectation.
Every project begins with a conversation,
and every decision follows in its own time.
