LA FILLE AU BORD DU LAC
Une femme s’assied au bord du lac. Vue de dos, elle pose une main dans l’eau et prend le temps d’en éprouver la température avant de commencer sa nage.
Cette femme, c’est Camille. Autour d’elle, le lac révèle son fond minéral. Les pierres apparaissent sous l’eau claire. Quelques perches s’éloignent, dérangées par l’arrivée de la nageuse.
J’ai observé ce rituel au fil des étés. Le niveau du lac transforme chaque fois l’accès à l’eau. La posture reste pourtant familière. Le corps s’installe, mesure l’espace et prépare son mouvement.
La figure occupe une place contenue dans le vaste format carré. Les cercles formés à la surface de l’eau prolongent son geste. Ils entraînent le regard dans une composition où le corps, la pierre et l’eau construisent un même espace.
THE GIRL BY THE LAKE
“Before entering the water, the body pauses, observes and makes the lake its own.”
A woman sits at the edge of the lake. Seen from behind, she places one hand in the water and takes time to feel its temperature before beginning her swim.
The woman is Camille. Around her, the lake reveals its mineral bed. Stones appear beneath the clear water. A few perch swim away, disturbed by the arrival of the swimmer.
I have observed this ritual over many summers. The changing level of the lake alters the way she reaches the water. Yet the posture remains familiar. The body settles, measures the space and prepares to move.
The figure occupies a contained place within the large square format. The circles spreading across the surface extend her gesture. They lead the eye through a composition where body, stone and water form a single space.
REGARDER DE PLUS PRÈS
A CLOSER LOOK
L’eau occupe presque toute la toile. Les superpositions de bleu, de vert et de gris donnent accès aux profondeurs du lac. Les pierres demeurent visibles sous les mouvements de la surface.
Autour de la main, de petits cercles se propagent. Ailleurs, les poissons traversent la composition. Ces détails donnent une mesure au lac et inscrivent la présence humaine dans un milieu vivant.
Water fills almost the entire canvas. Layers of blue, green and grey reveal the depths of the lake. Stones remain visible beneath the movement of the surface.
Small circles spread around the woman’s hand. Elsewhere, fish move through the composition. These details give the lake a sense of scale and place the human figure within a living environment.
L’ŒUVRE EN SITUATION
Avec son format carré de 120 × 120 cm, La Fille au Bord du Lac affirme une présence importante dans l’espace. La profondeur de l’eau ouvre visuellement le mur tandis que la figure donne à la composition son point d’ancrage.
L’œuvre peut trouver sa place dans un salon, une entrée ample, un bureau ou un espace professionnel. Elle demande un recul suffisant pour percevoir le mouvement général de l’eau. En s’approchant, le regard découvre les pierres, les poissons et les variations de matière.
THE ARTWORK IN SITU
With its 120 × 120 cm square format, The Girl by the Lake has a strong presence within a room. The depth of the water visually opens the wall, while the figure anchors the composition.
The artwork can be displayed in a living room, a spacious entrance, an office or a professional setting. Sufficient viewing distance reveals the overall movement of the water. Seen more closely, the stones, fish and variations in texture gradually appear.

Debout sur la rive, j’ai d’abord dessiné la scène. Le croquis a fixé la position du corps, la main posée dans l’eau, les pierres immergées et le mouvement des poissons.
La peinture a ensuite développé cet instant à l’échelle d’une toile de 120 × 120 cm. Les traits du dessin ont laissé place aux transparences, aux superpositions colorées et aux mouvements circulaires de l’eau.
Standing on the shore, I first drew the scene. The sketch captured the position of the body, the hand resting in the water, the submerged stones and the movement of the fish.
The painting then developed this moment on a 120 × 120 cm canvas. The drawn lines gave way to transparency, layers of colour and the circular movement of the water.
