CHEMIN FAISANT, MES GROLLES 1
Une paire de chaussures repose sur une surface claire. Le corps a quitté la scène, mais sa présence demeure dans les plis du cuir, les coutures et les marques d’usage.
Les chaussures sont présentées de dessus, alignées sans rigidité. Leur position évoque un arrêt après la marche. Elles ont accompagné des déplacements quotidiens, des chemins connus et des itinéraires improvisés.
Alain Rouschmeyer traite ces objets familiers comme une nature morte contemporaine. Les grolles deviennent un portrait indirect. Elles racontent une manière de marcher, d’occuper le sol et de traverser le monde.
ON THE WAY, MY SHOES 1
“The walk is over. The shoes still retain the shape of the body and the memory of the path.”
A pair of shoes rests on a pale surface. The body has left the scene, yet its presence remains in the creases of the leather, the stitching and the signs of use.
The shoes face the viewer, aligned without rigidity. Their position suggests a pause after walking. They have accompanied everyday journeys, familiar paths and unplanned routes.
Alain Rouschmeyer treats these familiar objects as a contemporary still life. The shoes become an indirect portrait. They reveal a way of walking, occupying the ground and moving through the world.
REGARDER DE PLUS PRÈS
A CLOSER LOOK
La frontalité donne aux chaussures une présence presque humaine. Chacune conserve sa forme propre. Les différences entre les plis, les ouvertures et les zones d’usure empêchent toute symétrie parfaite.
La couture blanche souligne la construction de l’objet. Elle suit la forme du cuir et accompagne le regard autour de chaque chaussure. Les ombres courtes les ancrent sur la surface claire.
The frontal viewpoint gives the shoes an almost human presence. Each retains its own shape. The differences between the creases, openings and worn areas prevent perfect symmetry.
The white stitching emphasises the construction of the object. It follows the shape of the leather and guides the eye around each shoe. Short shadows anchor them to the pale surface.

WHAT REMAINS OF THE BODY
Le corps n’apparaît pas dans la peinture. Pourtant, tout ramène à lui. Le cuir s’est assoupli sous le poids, la forme s’est adaptée au pied et l’usage a laissé des traces précises.
Ces marques ne désignent pas une personne identifiable. Elles permettent à chacun de reconnaître un objet proche, façonné par les habitudes et les déplacements. La chaussure devient la mémoire d’une présence.
The body does not appear in the painting. Yet everything refers back to it. The leather has softened under its weight, the shape has adapted to the foot and use has left precise traces.
These marks do not identify a particular person. They allow each viewer to recognise a familiar object shaped by habits and journeys. The shoe becomes the memory of a presence.

The pale composition and frontal framing give the artwork a precise presence. The leather tones work naturally with a white wall, natural wood, pale concrete or mineral materials.
Viewed closely, the eye lingers on the creases, stitching and transitions of colour. From a distance, the pair of shoes forms a simple and immediately recognisable figure.

Chemin faisant, mes grolles 1 constitue la première toile de la série Les Grolles. Cette série prolonge une pratique fondée sur la marche, l’observation et les rencontres faites au cours des déplacements.
Les chaussures représentent le point de contact entre le corps et le sol. Elles rendent la marche possible et conservent les marques de chaque trajet. Alain Rouschmeyer les isole pour faire apparaître ce que l’usage quotidien rend presque invisible.
Toutes les œuvres de la série adoptent un format carré de 40 × 40 cm. Chaque toile possède son propre équilibre. Réunies, elles composent une trajectoire faite de présences, d’arrêts et de chemins parcourus.
On the Way, My Shoes 1 is the first painting in The Shoes series. The series extends a practice based on walking, observation and encounters made while moving through different places.
Shoes form the point of contact between the body and the ground. They make walking possible and retain the marks of every journey. Alain Rouschmeyer isolates them to reveal what everyday use makes almost invisible.
All the works in the series share a 40 × 40 cm square format. Each painting has its own balance. Together, they form a path made of presences, pauses and travelled routes.
